Research, outreach and advocacy to keep public lands public
The Western Lands Project was originally created as the Western Land Exchange Project to monitor federal land exchanges and promote reform in related federal policies. By necessity, our mission has expanded to include scrutiny of the myriad efforts that are under way to privatize public lands. Our goal is to keep public lands public. We monitor federal land exchanges, sales, and giveaways and any project that would cede public control of land to non-federal entities.
While it is not our intent to oppose every single such action, neither will the Western Lands Project endorse any project that puts public lands in private hands.
